Individuals, groups, cars, floats and walkers are invited to participate in the annual UFO Alien Costume Parade on Saturday, May 17, 2014 at 2 p.m. Parade entry forms are now available from the McMinnville Downtown Association office and website.
This year marks the 15th anniversary of the UFO Festival itself, while the Alien Costume Parade is celebrating its 12th year. Last year, despite the rain we had over 50 parade entries and a once again estimated crowd of over 10,000! The majority of parade entries are locals, but many come from out of town and a few even travel from out of state – although they ALL claim to be from another PLANET!
Prizes will be awarded in the following categories:
Best Alien Float, Best Alien Group, Best Alien Male – to be named “Alien King,” Best Alien Female – to be named “Alien Queen, and Best Alien Child. The judging will take place at 12:30pm and the parade will start at 2pm.
The Alien Costume Parade is planned in conjunction with McMenamins UFO Festival, Thursday May 15, Friday, May 16 and Saturday, May 17. Other activities sponsored by the McMinnville Downtown Association include the Landing Party Friday, May 16 from 3-10pm at the US Bank Plaza, the Abduction Dash, starting at 1:15pm on Saturday and a Pet Costume Contest at 4pm following the parade at Buchanan Cellers. Visit the MDA website www.downtownmcminnville.com for more event details.
The UFO Festival was started to commemorate the famous Trent sighting in 1950 in which two local McMinnville citizens witnessed and photographed a UFO, said to be some of the most credible images of UFOs to date.
